The in-depth knowledge of world renowned Tamil work Thirukkural and the achievements of its author saint Tiruvalluvar is a must if one wants to understand the greatness of India as a whole, said BJP MP Tarun Vijay here on Monday.

Mr. Tarun Vijay, who is on ‘Tiruvalluvar Ganga Payanam’ across the State, addressed the members of the Salem Tamil Sangam in the city. He said that the people of north Indian states are not aware of the greatness of Chera, Chola, Pandya dynasties which ruled Tamil land centuries ago. They are only aware of north Indian kings such as Ashoka.

There is an urgent need to create awareness about the kingdoms which Tamils ruled and the greatness of Aandal and Kannagi among the north Indian masses. Seeni Duraisamy, president of the Salem Tamil Sangam, Varada Jayakumar, its secretary, and others spoke.
