`Session course’ for prison inmates

Inmates of Central Prison, Tiruchi started receiving insights into the life history, teachings and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, national poet Subramaniya Bharathi and Swami Vivekananda through a ‘30 session course’ on these great leaders organised by Sevalaya, a charitable trust, on Tuesday.

For the next two days, the talks by the resource persons of Sevalaya would also focus on the social outlook, and friends of the three great personalities and their pre-eminent contribution in the freedom struggle.

The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Women Prisons), Chennai P. Raja Soundari who inaugurated the programme called upon the inmates to follow the teachings of the great leaders. The Superintendent of Prison, Central Prison, Tiruchi A. Murugesan exhorted the inmates to have a positive attitude and develop good thoughts which were all crucial for their reformation.

The first day’s programme featured talk on the life history and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi followed by a documentary film on the Father of the nation. Talks on Subramaniya Bharathi and Swami Vivekananda will feature on October 14 and 15 along with documentaries on these leaders.

Similar three-day programmes will be conducted in November and December. The objective was to create a positive outlook among inmates and bring about a transformation in their behavioural attitude, prison authorities said.
