Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday urged the Opposition parties to stop politicising the recent killing of a village pradhan, his brother, and a senior police officer in Pratapgarh district.
Mr. Yadav described the incident as “very tragic.” He said the State would fully assist the CBI in its inquiry and things would be clear only after the probe. “The demand for a CBI inquiry was accepted without any delay. We have assured the families that the government is with them,” he said while mentioning that the State had accepted all demands made by the wife of slain DSP Zia-ul-Haque.

Mr. Yadav visited the house of the slain pradhan of Ballipur village, Nanhe Yadav, and his brother Suresh, and announced a compensation of Rs. 20 lakh to each family. The State would ensure that the children in the family were provided employment opportunities once they completed their education.
The pradhan’s family members had been on hunger strike and threatened to commit suicide if the Chief Minister did not visit them.
On the police personnel who deserted the officer on the fateful night, Mr. Yadav said, “Action will be taken against those policemen who fled the scene, those who showed weakness.”
