Statues for Akbar’s nine jewels at Fatehpur Sikri

March 27, 2014 01:48 am | Updated May 19, 2016 11:46 am IST - Agra:

Tourists visiting Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted capital of Mughal emperor Akbar, will soon get to see the statues of the navratnas — the nine jewels of the imperial court.

Agra’s Divisional Commissioner Pradeep Bhatnagar has asked the Agra Development Authority to install fibre glass statues of the nine jewels of Akbar’s court at vantage points in Fatehpur Sikri, about 30 km from Agra.

“I have sought the help of a Chandigarh sculptor, and we are in the process of finalising spots where the statues can be installed with proper canopy and tablets describing in detail the contribution of the nine geniuses to different fields,” he said adding “they helped Akbar evolve and shape his secular ideology.”
