In view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Libya, India has decided to send a contingent of specially-trained commandos drawn from one of the paramilitary forces to guard the Indian embassy in Tripoli.
“A decision in this regard was taken recently… an armed contingent will be deployed to secure the Indian embassy and the residence of Ambassador in Tripoli,” Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told journalists here. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given “in-principle” approval to the proposal mooted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), he added.
According to sources in the MHA, the Ministry is likely to get about 50 personnel of the border guarding force, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), specially trained for the Tripoli mission.

They will be trained in modern warfare, and to deal with terror attacks and carry out rescue missions. The contingent will also be trained in vehicle driving, unarmed combat and providing proximate security to the officials and staff of the Indian Embassy, they added.
