Squads to check eve-teasing

The Maharashtra government has decided to deploy special squads outside colleges, railway stations and other places throughout the city to keep a check on the menace of eve-teasing and other forms of sexual harassment.

The move comes in the wake of the recent murder of two youths in the suburbs by a group of men after the duo protested against the lewd comments some men passed at their women friends.

“Those found guilty will be dealt with and inquiry letters of the action taken against them would be sent over to their homes,” Satej Patil, Home Minister, told

The helpline number 103 already exists for women in Maharashtra, where they can call and lodge complaints. In addition, the government is planning to start a short-messaging service.
