Immediately, I hid at least 20 fleeing villagers, including women and children, in my house and locked it from outside”, Ms. Devi told The Hindu .

“I came outside and started screaming at the marauders to leave. They came to attack me, but someone in their group said that I belonged to their community and they spared my house,” she said.

It was all due to God’s grace that I could save so many lives,” she said.Among the many whom she saved was Aash Mohammed and his daughter-in-law Khairu Khatun. “Had she not allowed us inside her house, we all would have been killed,” said septuagenarian Aash Mohammed.

Ms. Khatun was all praise for her. “God sent an angel in her garb to save us.”
