Second arrest made in Nigerian murder case

The Goa police on Saturday arrested a 31-year-old man accused of murdering Nigerian national Obodo Uzomo Simeon at Parra in North Goa on October 30. Pravin alias Pagal Mandrekar, from Badem-Assagao in north coastal Goa, surrendered before the Mapusa police late in the evening.

On November 6, the police had arrested Surendra Poll (24). During interrogation, Poll, who was remanded in police custody for seven days, is learnt to have disclosed the names of all those who were behind Mr. Simeon’s murder.

Hunger strike withdrawn

Meanwhile, three Nigerian nationals, who were on hunger strike at the Aguada jail demanding that their statements be recorded by the Goa Human Rights Commission, called off their fast on Friday night after the panel’s secretary, Bhalachandra Mahale, met them and recorded their statements. Mr. Mahale is scheduled to submit his report on Tuesday.
