A special court here on Friday remanded journalist Jigna Vora and another accused, Paulson Joseph, in judicial custody till December 20 in connection with the case of June 11 murder of MiD-Day journalist J Dey.

The prosecution did not seek further police custody of Ms. Vora as the investigating agency is awaiting forensic reports on mobile phones.

Special public prosecutor Dilip Shah told the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act court that the police recovered one more mobile phone, which she had sold to a dealer.

With this, the police now have seven mobile handsets, all sent to the forensic lab. It would take about a month for the reports to arrive, and the investigation would have to wait till then. The prosecution was relying on technical evidence. The police would need to interrogate Ms. Vora after data from the phones were recovered, Mr. Shah told the court.

In another development, J Dey's wife statement that he had predicted his own death was mentioned in the charge sheet.

“For the past few months [since April] J Dey was restless. He told me he would be dying, but not due to any illness. He said he had told [two friends] that he would be dying in a month,” his wife said.
