The special court hearing the 2G spectrum scam case on Tuesday sought the CBI response to an application moved by all the 17 accused demanding the inclusion in court records of a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India report, which purportedly says the exchequer suffered no loss in the grant of UAS licences and allocation of 2G spectrum, besides opposing auction to arrive at a revised entry fee for new licensees.
The report reportedly contests the Comptroller and Auditor-General and the CBI's view on losses.
The accused — including the former Telecom Minister A. Raja, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimozhi, several corporate bigwigs and three telecom firms — sought the tabling of the report and that copies be furnished to help them in their defence.
Special Judge O. P. Saini directed the CBI to file its reply on September 9. While one estimate of the CAG pegged the loss to the exchequer at Rs. 1.76 lakh crore, the CBI arrived at a figure of Rs. 30,000 crore.
