The incident happened when Mr. Singh went to visit a Central Reserve Police Force complex in South Delhi to attend the ’Valour Day’ celebrations.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday got trapped in a stranded elevator at the Central Reserve Police Force complex in Vasant Kunj on Thursday. He had to climb up the lift-shaft wall to safety, using a stool.

The incident took place when Mr. Singh was on his way to attend the CRPF's “Valour Day” function. “He was accompanied by his (Officer on Special Duty) OSD B.K. Singh, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary and CRPF Director-General Prakash Mishra. National Security Guard chief J.N. Choudhury also got into the same lift, but had to step out apparently because it was overloaded,” said an official.

However, the lift again got stranded on its way up to the first floor. While addressing the function later, the Home Minister narrated the incident to the participants stating he ensured that the other three were evacuated before him.
