After the extended dry spell till last week, incessant rain and inflows from catchment areas are leaving many people distressed as road network got disrupted with overflowing river waters, and vast areas of crops are covered under a sheet of water in north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
A few areas in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts recorded over 9 cm rain and it is reported one person and a few heads of cattle were washed away in the floods at Hiramandalam in Srikakulam district.

River Vamsadara is in spate in Srikakulam district owing to huge inflows from catchment areas of Odisha and hundreds of people have been evacuated from low lying areas to safe places. Authorities have set up control rooms to monitor the flood situation.
The East Godavari district administration too shifted several people from low lying areas to other locations due to rising water levels in the Godavari at Rajahmundry.
Reviewing the situation, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to take steps for safety of the people in coastal districts. Mr. Naidu directed the authorities to stay alert and monitor water levels near low lying areas at different locations and evacuate people to safety.

The Chief Minister instructed the Ministers from respective regions to coordinate with all departments and ensure rescue and relief measures were extended to people.
