Rahul's speech a pack of lies, says Mayawati

Updated - July 31, 2016 03:50 pm IST - Lucknow:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati late on Monday termed the charges levelled by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi against her government “a pack of lies.”

“Whatever Rahul Gandhi has said earlier during the day was a pack of lies, politically motivated only with the intent of running down our government,” Bahujan Samaj Party spokesman Swami Prasad Maurya said in a statement issued here.

“Our Chief Minister wants the Central government to clarify what it had done for the development of Uttar Pradesh,” the statement said.

Ms. Mayawati has also taken serious note of Mr. Gandhi's remark about Uttar Pradesh youth “going begging” in Maharashtra and Punjab. “What does Rahul mean by calling the U.P. youth beggars; he ought to realise that if someone goes from one part of the country to another in search of employment, he does not become a beggar; they are hard working people,” points the statement issued on behalf of the Chief Minister.

Throwing the ball back at the Congress leader who had charged her government with rampant corruption, the statement hit out at the Congress for “setting new landmarks in corruption.”
