Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India Monday for a bilateral summit during which major defence deals were expected to be signed.

Trade, investment and energy are also expected to be on the agenda along with the situation in Afghanistan, according to Indian Foreign Ministry officials.

The defence deals concern the supply to India of more than 40 Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets and more than 50 helicopters, worth about 7 billion dollars, diplomatic sources said.
