Not taking up Congress post, says Priyanka

Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra on Friday has denied speculation in a section of the media that she was on the verge of taking up an official post in the Congress.

She termed such suggestions “conjecture” and “baseless rumours.”

“Constant conjecture about my assuming various posts in the party and the manner this issue is brought up at opportune moments is incorrect,” Ms. Vadra, daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said in a statement on Friday.

“I would be very grateful to all concerned if they desisted from encouraging such baseless rumours,” she said.

Several Congress leaders had indicated through the week the possibility of Ms. Vadra taking up a formal role in the party. While most Congress leaders confirm the possibility of Mr. Gandhi and Ms. Vadra working out a division of labour in running the party, at least a handful of key leaders feel that three persons from the Gandhi family leading the party may be a bad idea.

A party source told The Hindu that Ms. Vadra’s clarification notwithstanding, the last word on the topic had not been said yet.
