The Delhi police have told Team Anna to look for a site on the outskirts of the capital for their proposed indefinite protest against the Lokpal Bill draft recently approved by the Union Cabinet.
Replying to a letter sent by the civil society team seeking permission for their proposed protest at Jantar Mantar here from August 16, the police said it would not be allowed to stage a protest for more than a day at the site as the monsoon session of Parliament would be in progress at that time.
“We have told them that a protest at Jantar Mantar would be allowed only for a day and that too with the number of protesters not exceeding 2,000. If they plan to hold a protest beyond that or expect a larger number of people, they should look for alternative sites like Burari. We are waiting for their reply before taking a final decision,” said a senior police officer.

The police have also demanded that the team make it clear how many days it proposed to stage the protest and how many would participate.
Meanwhile, the police have issued an order imposing Section 144 at the “areas known as Parliament House, North and South Block, Central Vista Lawns together with its surrounding localities and areas” from July 30 to September 9. The order prohibits holding of public meetings, processions and demonstrations; assembly of five or more persons; and carrying of fire arms, banners, placards and swords. Jantar Mantar has been kept out of the purview of the order.
