Continuing its attack on the government, the BJP on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh take responsibility for “suppression of facts and wilful misrepresentation” before the Supreme Court on the CBI’s status report on the probe into coal blocks allocation.
Referring to Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Harin Raval’s submission before the Court on March 12 that the CBI status report on the coalgate probe had not been shared with anyone despite the fact that the ASG himself was present at the meeting of the Law Minister with the CBI top brass, the BJP deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Ravi Shankar Prasad, termed it as a “clear case of suppression of fact.”
Alleging that the government’s law officer had not told the “real facts” before the SC, Mr. Prasad said the Union of India had become a “colluding party” in suppression of facts and in “undermining the authority of the Supreme Court.”

“As the head of the UPA government, will Prime Minister Manmohan Singh take responsibility for the misrepresentation of facts by the top law officer before the Supreme Court in a scam like coal block allocation that actively involved his government and the Coal Ministry of which he was in charge during the relevant time?” Mr. Prasad said.
