The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA government of “misleading Parliament and the people of the country” by claiming that the country could access sensitive nuclear technology following an exemption from the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
Reacting to the latest decision of the NSG to deny India access to such technology as it was not a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the party said at the time of the Indo-U.S. civil nuclear deal, the Left parties pointed out that contrary to the claim of the Prime Minister and the government, India would not be able to import enrichment and reprocessing technology being transferred to India.
In a statement, the party Polit Bureau said the government had claimed that it had got a ‘clean waiver' and the Prime Minister told Parliament time and again that the nuclear deal would involve cooperation for the full nuclear fuel cycle.

“Now the UPA government seeks comfort from the American assurance that the exemption given to India will, in no way, be diluted. This is patently false. First of all, the United States did not commit to provide sensitive nuclear technology to India,” the statement said.
