The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to review its >February 7, 2104 judgment upholding the notification issued by the Union government on November 11, 2011, to implement the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Boards for journalists and non-journalists of newspapers and news agencies.

A three-judge Bench of Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Shiva Kirti Singh dismissed a batch of petitions filed by the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), ABP Pvt. Ltd, Ushodaya Publications, Printers (Mysore) Private Ltd., Rajasthan Patrika and the Press Trust of India, observing that there was no merit.

On February 7, the court said: “The recommendations of the Wage Boards are valid in law, based on genuine and acceptable considerations and there is no valid ground for interference under Article 32 of the Constitution.”
