Initiate divorce proceedings; to divide properties

Former television executive Peter Mukerjea and wife Indrani were present at the Bandra family court on Tuesday to initiate their divorce proceedings.

Mr. Mukerjea reached the court from the Arthur Road Jail and Ms. Mukerjea from the Byculla Jail. The couple are accused of killing Ms. Mukerjea’s 24-year-old daughter Sheena Bora.

On January 17, 2017, Ms. Mukerjea had told the CBI court which is hearing the murder trial that she wants to file a divorce petition against second husband Mr. Mukerjea. On June 18, 2017, Mr. Mukerjea also agreed to divorce his second wife.

On Tuesday, they were taken to registrar M.N. Kawles and later to Judge S.S. Sawant for submitting their documents. Then, they were taken to the marriage counsellor individually. A divorce petition was filed, and the process will be complete after six months of a procedural cooling off period.

The couple, who have been married for 16 years, have decided to divide their properties in Mumbai, Goa, England and Spain. They have also agreed to divide their bank accounts, jewellery, and watches kept in bank lockers.
