The upcoming local urban body elections in Uttar Pradesh could be held through ballot paper and not EVMs. This, however, has nothing to do with the ongoing debate over the authenticity of EVMs, officials said.
The U.P. State Election Commission (SEC) has conveyed to the Election Commission of India that if it cannot provide it with new EVMs, permission should be granted for the use of ballot paper in the municipal corporation polls in July.
The U.P. SEC had said that the EVMs with it were outdated and prone to faults.
