Pakistan national held for illegal stay in Jhajjar

A 40-year-old Pakistani national has been detained by the Haryana Police for staying illegally at a temple here.

The Jhajjar police detained Raja, a resident of Hindu Colony at Larkana in Pakistan, on Thursday evening following a tip-off.

The Hindu that Mr. Raja belonged to Hindu minority in Pakistan and had come to India in 2013. He purportedly told the police that he was spiritually inclined.

“He was staying at ISKCON temple and got his visa extended over the past three-four years. However, he failed to extend his visa this time and after it expired three months ago,” he said.

The officer said Mr. Raja was produced before the Delhi Police and they had accepted his application for visa extension.

Aadhar card

“He has got an appointment for Monday and his visa might be extended,” said Mr. Balan, adding that Mr. Raja didn’t hide anything during questioning. Mr. Raja, who has taken a spiritual name of Raj Das, also managed to procure an Aadhar card. He allegedly revealed that he had procured it by “mistake”. The police are probing the claim. “After procuring the Aadhar card, he didn’t feel the need for visa extension and didn’t apply for it either,” said Mr. Balan.

The officer said that as per a Ministry of Home Affairs notification, members of Hindu minority arriving India from Pakistan before 2013-14 are to be given visa extension liberally. No case has been registered in this connection.
