The Left on Monday insisted that only an announcement on rollback of the Cabinet decision of allowing 51 per cent foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail would be acceptable. It put the onus on the government for the smooth functioning of Parliament.
“Our position remains unaltered. We are for complete rollback. We think that it was unparliamentary on the part of the government to allow West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to announce the decision,” Communist Party of India Parliamentary Party leader Gurudas Dasgupta told The Hindu .
The party was invited by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to attend a meeting on December 7, he said. He insisted that the CPI would move an adjournment motion on Wednesday to suspend question hour and take up a discussion on the FDI issue.

CPI(M) Lok Sabha leader Basudeb Acharia said there was no change in the stand of his party in demanding a rollback. He said suggestions of putting the decision on hold were not satisfactory. “What if the government brings it back after the session is over?”
The CPI(M) would prefer to hear the government before taking a decision, he said.
