To commemorate 100 years of the Nobel Prize in literature being awarded to Rabindranath Tagore, a wall in one of the city’s busiest metro stations will be fabricated into a “Nobel Memorial Wall” commemorating Indian Nobel laureates, an official of the Swedish Embassy told The Hindu over telephone from New Delhi on Tuesday.
“A plywood and steel structure depicting the Nobel laureates from the country will be put in front of an existing wall at the Esplanade Metro station in the city,” the official said, adding that similar graffiti will be made at the Rabindra Sarobar station.
“The programme begins on October 25 with Ambassador of Sweden Harald Sandberg inaugurating the ‘Nobel Memorial Wall’… The wall will be a permanent structure at the busiest metro station in Kolkata,” a release issued by the Swedish Embassy said, adding that the two-day celebrations are being organised by the Embassy.
