Rubbishing speculation on early elections, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Sunday said the government at the Centre was stableMr. Shinde and other senior Congress leaders were in the city to address a two-day Congress seminar ahead of the 2014 elections.
Speaking at the seminar, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal attacked the “superficial success” of Gujarat. He said PR-driven campaigns would not yield results in the Lok Sabha elections.
Claiming that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had painted a “wrong picture” of the development in the State, Mr. Sibal said: “Modi’s work is a mirage. Politics does not work through Public Relations agencies. We all know what happened to Anna [Hazare].”

Mr. Sibal said States such as Maharashtra and Orissa had handled issues like malnutrition better than Gujarat.
Indigenous production
Stressing that the UPA government was intent on helping people, Mr. Sibal said a new electronic goods policy would be introduced in Parliament within the next couple of weeks. Two new factories would be set up to promote indigenous production of electronic goods, especially micro-chips.Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the 2014 elections were very important for the future of the country. “If any one party does not get a clear majority, the future and the existence of the country will be in danger,” he said.
