The CBI has claimed that it has found no evidence against the seniormost naval officer sacked in the sensational naval war room leak case, which shook up the security establishment more than a decade ago.
The CBI told the Delhi High Court recently that it has found no evidence against the former Director of Naval Operations, who was dismissed by the government in 2005.
The CBI filed its closure report a few months ago quietly in the Delhi High Court as well as in a trial court. “The investigation in respect of accused petitioner Kashyap Kumar has concluded and the CBI has decided to close the case against him,” the agency said in its filing in the court.

In mid-2005 it emerged that national secrets and other sensitive information from the highly protected Directorate of Naval Operations in South Block were being taken out by some officers and supplied to arms dealers. The Navy conducted an in-house inquiry and decided to sack three officers including Captain Kashyap Kumar, who had recently taken over as the Director of Naval Operations and was quickly rising through the ranks. Captain Kumar had moved the court challenging his summary sacking.
