The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday vehemently denied reports that it had received any “complaint letter” signed by a section of its legislators allegedly upset with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan’s manner of functioning.
Rubbishing reports being published in certain sections of the media that claimed that over 40 Congress MLAs legislators had endorsed such a dissent letter, Congress State president Manikrao Thakre categorically denied having received any such letter that cast aspersions on the functioning of the Chief Minister.
“Let it be clear that nobody within the party is against the Chief Minister. We stand solidly behind him,” Mr. Thakre said, adding he had received letters in the past which pertained to problems faced by lawmakers in their respective constituencies.

“Some of these may have sought the direct intervention of the Chief Minister and these are being dealt with in the usual way. But there is no such ‘complaint letter’ that accuses Mr. Chavan of ignoring party interests,” he said.
An undated letter in circulation, signed by 43 legislators from the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, seeks the intervention of Mr. Thakre and All India Congress Committee State in-charge Mohan Prakash to settle a number of issues pertaining to their regions.
The issues detailed in the letter, however, are of a general nature with no hints of a rebellion questioning Mr. Chavan’s mode of governance.
