Namdhari’s PSO in police custody

December 05, 2012 01:31 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:25 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Police was granted three-day custody of Sachin Tyagi, personal security officer of sacked Uttarakhand Minority Commission chairman Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, by a court here on Tuesday. The police alleged that Tyagi, who was arrested on Monday for his alleged role in the Ponty Chadha shootout case, fired at the liquor baron’s brother.

Metropolitan Magistrate Neha said: “Sustained custodial interrogation is required to unearth the entire sequence and consequences of the crime and also for the recovery of weapons used. In view of the submissions made in the application for recovery of other weapons, the accused is remanded in police custody till December 7.”

The Delhi Police Crime Branch submitted that Tyagi’s custody was required as he allegedly disclosed his involvement in the conspiracy to trespass into the disputed farmhouse where the shoot-out occurred. The police claimed that Tyagi and Namdhari, who has been booked on the charge of murdering Hardeep, planned the killing.

The police alleged that Tyagi removed the weapon from the spot and destroyed evidence. The police also told the court that Tyagi, a constable with the Uttarakhand Police since 2005 and attached to Namdhari as his PSO since January 2012, failed to perform his duty of informing the police of the conspiracy.

Tyagi’s counsel Ranbir Singh opposed the prosecution plea for three-day remand, saying his client had co-operated with the police since the shootout.
