More financial clout for CBI director

November 23, 2013 03:04 am | Updated 03:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Centre has decided to expand the financial powers of the Central Bureau of Investigation Director, bringing them on a par with those held by Director-Generals of paramilitary forces.

The investigative agency presently relies on the Ministry of Personnel for major expenditures and had, for quite some time, been facing problems in funding expenses incurred on account of investigations and training in different parts of the country.

The government also plans to move an amendment to the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act in this regard.

The CBI had also been demanding more powers in terms of administrative matters. The agency’s request for ex-officio powers of a Secretary in the Union Government was, however, turned down.
