Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday asked the Centre to shift JKLF chief Yasin Malik to Srinagar, as she led a protest march in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.

“JKLF chief Yasin Malik should be released immediately as he is unwell. In case of any eventuality, the situation in Kashmir will worsen and may go out of hand,” she said.

The candidate from the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, Ms. Mufti also sought an end to the ban on the highway for civilian movement and asked the Centre to revoke the decision to stop the cross-Line of Control trade.

Low turnout a lesson for Mehbooba: Omar

National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the low voter turnout in Anantnag and Bijbehara “was a lesson for PDP and Mehbooba Mufti”.

“The amount of disgruntlement and disillusionment of the people against Ms. Mufti can be gauged from the fact that a place from where she got a lead of 12,000 votes in 2016 elections saw only 956 people cast their ballot. Even her own brother and a sitting MLC didn’t cast his vote in her favour. If her own brother didn’t repose his faith in her, how can others,” he said.

Censuring the PDP and Ms. Mufti’s on “deceiving people”, he said, “They were not able to keep any of their promises. People didn’t see any jobs. The promise of lessening the foot print of security forces also turned out to be a sham. On the contrary she shamelessly presided over a plethora of miseries that people of Kashmir especially the people of south Kashmir had to go through.”
