23 killed, 27 injured as marriage hall wall collapses in Bharatpur

The weather suddenly changed and heavy winds started blowing, leading to the tragedy.

Rescue work in progress after a wall collapsed at a wedding venue due to a storm which left twenty-three people, including four children, dead and 27 others injured, in Bharatpur late on Wednesday night.

Twenty-three people, including four children, were killed and 27 injured when a wall of a shed in a marriage hall collapsed in a heavy storm in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on Wednesday night, Inspector General of Police Alok Vashishtha told PTI .

District Collector NK Gupta said one of the injured died later, taking the death toll to 23.

Superintendent of Police Anil Tank said the wall was nearly 90-feet long and 12-13 feet in height.

Several food stalls were set up adjoining the wall. A tin shed was also attached to a portion of the wall.

 

“The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals immediately and treatment was administered. One injured has been referred for the SMS Hospital in Jaipur,’ he said.

The weather suddenly changed and heavy winds started blowing, leading to the incident on Sewar Road.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condoled the deaths and gave instructions to the officers concerned for proper treatment of the injured.
