Malcolm Adiseshiah award for Gopal Guru

Jawaharlal Nehru University professor Gopal Narayan Guru has been chosen for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Contribution to Development Studies for 2013-14.

Announcing this on behalf of the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust on Thursday, trustee H.B.N. Shetty said the award, which carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, was an encouragement for further contribution to development studies. The awardee is also eligible for a further grant to be used within three years for a research programme approved by the Trust.

Eminent persons who have received the award since 2001 include A.V. Banerjee of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, C.P. Chandrasekar of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Ramachandra Guha and Yogendra Yadav. Prof. Guru has teaching experience of over 32 years and started his career as a lecturer with the Department of Political Science, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The award was announced on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Malcolm Adiseshiah, eminent economist and recipient of the Padma Bhushan award. It would be presented in Chennai on November 21 on Adiseshiah’s death anniversary.
