Lt. Manoranjan Kumar's body brought to Jharkhand

The body of Lt. Manoranjan Kumar, who died in INS Sindhuratna mishap in Mumbai, was received with a guard of honour at the Ranchi airport on Saturday afternoon, before being taken to his family's home in Jamshedpur.

Manoranjan Kumar's father Naveen Kumar, his two uncles, and his younger brother Sumant, a student of class XII flew from Mumbai to Ranchi with his body. They were accompanied by seven of Manoranjan's course-mates from the Navy.

Jharkhand's first chief minister and leader of Jharkhand Vikas Prajatantrik Babulal Marandi, Jamshedpur MP Dr. Ajoy Kumar and officials from the Governor's office also reached the airport.

The 26-year old naval engineer had joined the navy as a direct technical entrant after finishing high school from Army Public School Bareilley. He had undergone training in electronics engineering in Goa and Lonavala in Maharastra before being commissioned in the navy in 2009.

“He scored 91 and 89% in class X, XII respectively and applied for direct entry in the navy. He had wanted to join the defence services since he was a child,” said his father Naveen Kumar who retired from the army's 10 Armoured Regiment in 2010.

Mr. Kumar said Manoranjan had been promoted to Lieutenant Commander on February 15 and had planned to visit home soon after the promotion.
