With the Rajya Sabha impeaching Justice Soumitra Sen of the Calcutta High Court last week, the Lok Sabha will now take up the issue on September 4 and 5, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told journalists after the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee.
The two motions to impeach Justice Sen were passed by well over a two-thirds majority of Members present and voting in the Rajya Sabha. All major political parties voted in favour of the two motions moved by Communist Party of India Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury, with Bahujan Samaj Party the sole contrarian voice and Trinamool Congress choosing to abstain.
Mr. Bansal said a short-duration discussion on corruption under Rule 193, which did not entail voting, would be taken up on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the situation in post-conflict Sri Lanka will come up for discussion. The topic was listed by Speaker Meira Kumar on Tuesday and she had asked former Union Minister T.R. Baalu (Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam) to speak with other interested Members requested to take the floor the next day. Following protests mainly from the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the suggestion was dropped, and the entire discussion will take place on Thursday.
