Lok Sabha hails launch of RISAT-1

April 27, 2012 12:41 am | Updated 12:41 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Members in the Lok Sabha hailed, with thumping of tables, the successful launch of India's first indigenous radar imaging satellite RISAT (RISAT-1) from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

The members shouted Jai Bharat when Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister's office V. Narayanasamy made a statement informing the House of the heaviest satellite launched by the country earlier in the day and congratulated ISRO and its space scientists for the “splendid national accomplishment.”

The 20 successful launch by the PSLV, of the satellite enabled with cloud penetration and day-night imaging facilities, will help agricultural activities, particularly in monitoring the kharif paddy season and in the management of natural disasters such as floods and cyclones.
