The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a member of fugitive gangster Ejaz Lakdawala's gang, who, the police said, was involved in a firing case that injured one person in the city in October this year. The police have slapped the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on him. “He has been granted police custody till November 21,” Police Inspector Manohar Dhanavade, told The Hindu .
“After we got information, we arrested Jafar Isa Madwala alias Chacha two days ago from a hotel here. He is the money manager of the Ejaz Lakdawala gang and has been associated with the gang for a very long time now,” he said.

On October 1 this year, two persons fired three rounds outside a local builder's office in Dongri. One of the bullets hit the builder's employee Sony Abdul Majeed (33) in his left leg.
Within a fortnight, the police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the shooting. The police arrested Prashant Rao (32), Nilesh William Jatana (24) and Riaz Ahmed Hussain Shaikh (35) and recovered three country-made 7.65 mm pistols from them.
“We have slapped MCOCA on the three accused long ago. Now that we have caught hold of the money manager who used to take money from the gangster and give it to the shooters, we have applied MCOCA on him too,” Mr. Dhanavade said.

Criminal record
Jafar has a criminal record and he was arrested by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch in 2005 for demanding extortion from a builder.
