CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat has criticised External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna for his just concluded visit to Israel, saying that it would send a wrong signal. The visit came at a time when Israel was threatening to use force against Iran. Israel, which had occupied Palestinian territories, was oppressing people there, calling them terrorists.
Mr. Krishna's visit to Israel, which has been taking an aggressive stand, came at a time when joint exercises with the United States are under way, targeting Iran, he added.
Complicating the matter was the talk of cooperation between India and Israel in fighting terrorism. “What kind of signal will it send outside?” he asked.

Mr. Karat said such developments were raising questions about India's foreign policy and the direction in which it was headed.
