The family of terror accused Khalid Mujahid, who died recently in police custody, on Wednesday rejected the Rs. 6 lakh compensation offered to them by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Khalid’s uncle Jaheer Alam Falahi told The Hindu that since the State government had not implemented the findings of the Nemish Commission report, which termed Khalid’s arrests by the STF “suspicious,” he would not accept any form of compensation.
“I have spent the last five years fighting cases in courts in Lucknow, Barabanki and Faizabad. Khalid's family, lawyers and the Muslim community have spent over seven times the amount offered to us by the State. It would be disrespectful to all those who have supported us and to Khalid if we accept this money,” he said.

Mr. Falahi expressed hope that the CBI probe would bring out the truth in the alleged “custodial killing” of Khalid, who was an accused in the 2007 serial court blasts in Lucknow, Faizabad and Gorakhpur. Police claimed that he died of a sudden illness.
