The paintings on flat glass surfaces exhibited at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery here are the creative outcomes of her painstaking work over the past many years. They included work in vibrant colours in different styles, including murals.

This is the 13th painting exhibition by artist Ambily, a native of Kozhikode.

“Glass is a risky medium and it is not very easy to transport,” said Ms. Ambily whose 28 paintings are on display here.

Specialising in the medium of glass over the past 16 years, she claimed that she had pioneered the concept of murals on glass. She said she used both existing and experimental techniques such as acid etching.

Ms. Ambily’s glass murals are done in sizes of up to 200 cm X 100 cm. The glasses she uses vary from 4 mm to 10 mm in thickness. They are mountable using special studs.

She said her exhibition was intended to popularise this art form. Artist K.K. Marar inaugurated the exhibition on December 8 and it will continue till December 14.
