Work on hill highway project to begin in Kasaragod this year

The long-anticipated work on the construction of a hill highway in the district will begin this year, with Rs.5 crore being allocated for the project.

The project was included in the P. Prabhakaran Commission report that studied the comprehensive development of the relatively backward district. The work on the road, set to connect Thiruvananthapuram, will begin from Nandarapadavu in the northern tip and pass through Perla, Badiadukka, Mullaria, and Chalingal.

A meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday prepared a list of development schemes to be taken up on priority basis for the Rs.35-crore fund sanctioned as per the Prabhakaran Commission report.

The meeting, chaired by Collector P.S. Muhammed Sagir and held at the Collectorate, was attended by P. Karunakaran, MP, local MLAs, N.A. Nellikkunnu, E. Chandrasekharan, P.B. Abdul Razak, district panchayat president P. P. Shyamala Devi, and senior district officials.

In the power sector, the meeting earmarked Rs.5 crore in the first phase by enhancing the capacity of the110-KV single circuit in the Thoudugoli-Mailati line.

Power project

The authorities have earmarked Rs.20 crore to complete the streamlining of the power transmission project. It has been decided to earmark Rs.one crore to build a pre-metric hostel for Scheduled Caste students at Delampady. The scheme is expected to benefit 1,500 members.
