Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Pro Vice- Chancellor Syed Ahmedali has said that the construction activities of the AMU Malappuram centre will begin soon, in accordance with its master plan.

Addressing the media on the Chelamala campus of the AMU Malappuram centre near Perinthalmanna on Sunday, Mr. Ahmedali ruled out the concerns raised about the future of the institution. He said the construction of permanent blocks for administration, B.Ed., MBA, and BALLB programmes would begin soon. Talks were held with the officials of the Central Public Works Department, he said.

The centre would begin a new programme called Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) from next year with the intention of giving vocational training in a scientific manner to those who missed formal education.

He said plans were afoot to launch programmes such as B.A. English, B.A. Communicative English, and B.Com.

A women’s polytechnic would also be set up at the centre. He said the AMU had sought legal aid to amend its Statute in order to set up a school on the Chelamala campus. He expressed hope that the Malappuram centre could start the school next year.
