Woman stabbed to death, son injured

A woman was stabbed to death and her son sustained stab injuries in an attack by a youth at Kunnathurpadi near Payyavur here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as E.V. Gracy (45). Her son Jibin (22) has been admitted to a hospital at Taliparamba with stab injuries.

According to the police, the youth identified as M. Benny (42), a distant relative of the deceased, visited her house in the morning.

There was an altercation between Benny and Varghese, Gracy’s husband.

In a fit of rage, Benny stabbed Gracy and later Jibin, the police said.

Though Gracy and Jibin were rushed to hospital immediately, the former died on the way to hospital. The police said the attack was apparently in retaliation for Mr. Varghese and his wife having allegedly rejected Benny’s proposal to marry their daughter.

The police said that a search was on to nab Benny who had fled from the spot after the attack.
