A web portal and a mobile phone application functioning on the Android platform developed by the National Informatics Centre here will give fast and accurate information relating to the local body elections in the district.

District Collector P. Bala Kiran launched the portal and the application here on Wednesday.

The Collector said that the portal and the app were developed in response to the State Election Commission’s thrust on utilising information and communication technology tools for the polls. Both polling officials and the public can access information from them, he said.

The portal can be accessed through the official website of the district administration www.kannur.gov.in.

The main features available in the portal are a video explaining how to vote, facilities to check voter status, register complaints relating to the election process, information on polling stations, wards and local body details, contact details of election officers and police officers, information regarding counting, distribution and collection centres, authenticated user logins for returning officers and complaint administrators, district panchayat division map, and previous election results.

The Collector said that the app will be available for download from Google Play Store from October 9 by searching “Local body Election 2015 Kannur”.
