The Wayanad District Tourism promotion Council is organising an interstate bike rally, ‘Wayanad Beckons’, to revive the tourism sector of the district that was battered last month by heavy rain and floods.

C.K. Saseendran, MLA, and Wayanad subcollector N.S.K. Umesh will jointly flag off the programme at Pookode at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The programme is being organised in association with tourism organisations in the district, including the Backpacker’s Tourism Society, Wayanad Destination Makers, and Mix Pulse Riding Community.

“The recent rain and floods had adversely affected the tourism sector of the hill district and the sector alone incurred a loss of ₹4.61 core owing to the deluge,” the organisers said.

“Though many a tourism destination in the district has been opened after the floods, the tourist inflow is yet to start. The programme aims at spreading the message that major tourism destinations are opened and Wayanad is a safe destination to explore,” the organisers added.

They will also disburse stickers, brochures, and posters to the public, travel agents, and tour operators in major cities during the ride. The programme will conclude on Sunday.
