V.M. Sathish passes away

He had reported extensively on exploitation of expatriates

V.M. Sathish, eminent expatriate journalist covering West Asia, is no more. He was 54. According to reports reaching here, Sathish, who had gone to Dubai on a tourist visa on Tuesday, had suffered a massive cardiac arrest. His end came by Wednesday night at Al Quassimi Hospital, Sharjah.

Born to an agriculturist family at Ithithanam, near here, Sathish completed his postgraduation from the School of International Relations, Mahatma Gandhi University, with first rank.

He has an M.Phil. from Pondicherry University and was pursuing a PhD from Bombay University.

Sathish started his journalistic career in Mumbai, and moved to

Oman Daily Observer , Muscat, as a business reporter later.

For the next nearly 25 years, Sathish had reported extensively on corruption and exploitation of the marginalised, especially the expatriates, contributing to publications in West Asia and India, both print and visual media.

He was in the process of launching two digital publications, one in Malayalam and another in English. Known for his independent views and sharp reporting, Sathish has brought out a collection of his reports titled Distressing Encounters .

His mortal remains will be brought to Kerala by 7.30 a.m. on Friday. Sathish’s body will be placed at Kottayam Press Club for the public to pay homage. Funeral is scheduled for Friday evening at his house compound at Ithithanam. Sathish leaves behind his wife and two children.
