P. Kulsu, State general secretary of Vanitha League, the women’s wing of the Indian Union Muslim League, has said that the Triple Talaq Bill proposed by the Central government is badly designed.
At a press meet here on Monday, she alleged that the government had introduced criminal law into a civil contract with ulterior motives.
“If a man who utters Triple Talaq is imprisoned, who will take care of the divorced woman or pay her alimony?” Ms. Kulsu asked.

She also expressed concern that the Triple Talaq Bill could be a precursor to the uniform civil code, which ‘went against the constitutional rights of various communities.’
She further questioned the Left Democratic Front government’s idea of ‘renaissance’ pointing out the ‘double standards’ of the CPI(M) in women empowerment or safety.
“They attack a police station to release the accused in a rape case and shelter them in the party office. Further they transfer the woman police officer who captured the culprits. Yet they speak of women empowerment,” Ms. Kulsu said.

Symposium
The State committee of the Vanitha League will organise a symposium on the topic ‘Triple Talaq Bill for whom?’ at Kozhikode Town Hall on January 29.
E.T. Muhammed Basheer, MP, will open the symposium at 10 a.m. while State general secretary of IUML K.P.A. Majeed will deliver the keynote address.
Convention on Feb. 16
The Vanitha League will also organise ‘Into people’s hearts through democracy,’ a convention of people’s representatives, at C.H. Auditorium in Kozhikode on February 16.
P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, will open it while M.K. Muneer, MLA, will deliver the keynote address.
Three regional conventions on ‘Women’s politics in renaissance’ will be held at Kasaragod, Palakkad, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram. Vanitha League vice president P. Safiya and joint secretaries Serina Haseeb and Brazilia Shamsudheen were present.
