Utilise legal systems to help poor, youth told

Conquer new tracks in the field of law: Justice Mushtaq

Underlining the emerging trends in legal studies, Justice Mohammed Mushtaq of the Kerala High Court on Sunday called on the younger generations to utilise the legal systems of the country for the benefit of the poor.

Addressing the valedictory session of the two-day National Mooting Competition at the CSI College for Legal Studies, Kanakkary, Kottayam, here on Sunday, he also urged the youth to conquer new tracks in the field of law instead of the conventional practices.

According to him, the areas of technological advancement, neo-liberal markets, international trade and intellectual property rights have all opened new and different avenues for the law students to pursue.

State Police Chief Loknath Behera, who presided over the function, called on law graduates to make constructive intervention in society. Thomas Payikkadan, Treasurer, CSI Diocese and S.Sivakumar, South India president, Commonwealth Legal Education Association, also spoke.

A three-member team comprising Sruthi Verma, Deepak Singh Jadon and Aneesha Shekhawat from the Ahmedabad based Nirma university won the event.

In Zambia

They will now attend the Commonwealth Mooting and Law Conference to be held in Zambia in April.

The Bhopal National Law Institute University finished runner up while Lloyd Law College in Noida came third.

Organised jointly by the Commonwealth Legal Education Association and Commonwealth Lawyers Association, this was for the first time that a self-financing college hosted the biannual event since its inception in 1971.
