U.S. national dies after fall from train

A U.S. national died after falling down from a moving train at the Chengannur station here on Monday. His wife survived with minor injuries.

According to the police, Kacy John O'Connell (52) and his wife Margaret —both from Texas — were on their way to Ernakulam and had reportedly boarded the wrong train at the Chengannur station.

Realising their mistake after the train started moving, the elderly couple tried to jump down.

Mr. O'Connell, however, slipped and was caught under the train while his wife fell on the platform. The husband died on the spot.

The O'Connells have been inmates of an ashram at Malakara in Pathanamthitta for the last several years, police said.

The body was handed over to Ms. O'Connell after post-mortem.
