A united movement of the left parties was the need of the hour to check the threat from communal forces, especially at a time when the RSS-controlled BJP was trying to revive the caste system in the country, CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran, has said.

Mr. Rajendran was inaugurating a study centre in memory of the veteran trade leader and staunch communist, M.Sukumara Pillai, at a public function held in Pandalam town on Sunday evening.

He also declared that his party will intensify the stir against right wing parties from spreading communal disharmony in society.

Mr. Rajendran said the people of Kerala were wise enough to understand the BJP-Congress move to defame the LDF government by unleashing false and baseless propaganda.

Though the CPI and the CPI(M) were individual parties, both come under the LDF accepting the concept of Marxism, Leninism and class war and the unity between the two parties have strengthened at the national level too.

Mr. Rajendran alleged that the NDA government was encouraging communal forces in the country.

The Modi government was adopting the same economic policies which were earlier implemented by the Congress government. The BJP was also encouraging communal elements in every sector, the CPI leader alleged.

Recalling the contributions of Mr. Sukumara Pillai, he said the former’s contribuitions in building the mass base of the CPI and its trade union movement in Central Travancore was immense.
