Two held for illegal money lending

Two persons were arrested here on Wednesday for illegal money-lending. The arrested were Abu and his son, Sunil, both of residents of Mangalam ward, Alappuzha.A top police officer told The Hindu that the arrest was made after Selina, a 40-year-old woman, a resident of Mangalam, attempted to commit suicide after the duo started threatening her over repayment of money borrowed from them. She is said to have borrowed a sum of Rs. 50,000 from the money lenders. She was allegedly forced to sign documents by the duo for paying double the amount she borrowed, which led to the suicide attempt.
